Hidden small cell lung cancer case

Tumors involving the central bronchial tree and adjacent mediastinum may be very difficult to perceive on conventional radiography.

In this example, the only (very subtle) findings on conventional radiography are widening of the lower right paratracheal mediastinum on the PA projection and effacement of the posterior wall of the bronchus intermedius and adjacent subcarinal opacity on the lateral projection.

The corresponding tumor mass is readily evident on computed tomography.
